Onshore Offshore Magazine
Chrystal was born and raised on a sea island off the coast of Charleston, South
Carolina, Chrystal spent her childhood fishing at the edge of the Gulf Stream on her
father's famous deep-sea fishing boat, “The Mustang II”.

Transplanted to Florida in 1976, she pursued her passion for the outdoors with new
friends; fishing, surfing, hunting and riding horses, gulf coast Florida style.  Chrystal has
journeyed to the far edge of Panama’s jungles in search of surf and exotic palms,
fished the famous “ledge” just off Havana, Cuba for “Papa” Hemingway’s marlin and
guided horseback/fly fishing trips to the Cloud Peak mountain range of Wyoming.

Her many adventures include camping, kayaking, fishing from the Florida panhandle to
the 10,000 Islands,  diving the Dry Tortugas, and chasing the Boca Grande tarpon
offshore in a flats skiff.  Chrystal is the first woman to single-handedly hook and land a
tarpon off the beach of Boca Grande out of a kayak.

A member of the
Florida Guides Association and Ocean Kayak Pro-Staff and
Professional Paddle Fishing Team,  she enjoys introducing people to the sport of
catching fish out of kayaks and canoes. Her additional duties include
editing and writing, as the South West Regional Editor, for the popular outdoors publication, Onshore – Offshore Magazine.

You can always find Chrystal somewhere in her office between Tarpon Springs and Naples to waypoints beyond, riding a
wave, or hooked up on a fish.   As an active tournament organizer, and competitor in the Florida, Chrystal Murray brings great
skills and enthusiasm to the sport of kayak fishing.
